On this day back in 1964, The Statler Brothers were attending a Johnny Cash concert in Canton, OH, and ended up opening the show for Johnny because he was late. While VH1 is obviously not focused on country music, I’m still surprised at the lack of country songs on it’s new list of the 100 Greatest Songs of the 00′s.
The only three country songs on the list come from Johnny Cash (‘Hurt’ at #33), Taylor Swift (‘You Belong With Me’ at #50) and Carrie Underwood (‘Before He Cheats’ #99).

P.S. Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow’s ‘Picture’ came in at #46 and could be considered a country song.
Johnny Cash left his world on this day back in 2003. In searching for an appropriate song to post as a tribute to Johnny, I came across this live performance of Johnny and June performing Jackson. Since I can’t think of Johnny without June, I thought this was an appropriate video to post. Enjoy!
