Red Cup Diaries Exclusive Q&A With Susie Brown of JaneDear Girls

Susie Brown is the sweet and flirty, stylish lead singer of the JaneDear Girls. The first time I saw the JaneDear Girls, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I saw Danelle with an 80s rocker style and then Susie with her perfect hair and makeup. I wondered if they were going to be any good at all, because they seemed like dolls that were brought to life prancing around the bar before show time… then they hit the stage. Woah.

Susie, the multi-talented and classically beautiful lead singer, leaves you wondering if she has any flaws. Her voice – strong and sassy. Then when she plays her fiddle, well, it’s with a passion and commitment that is rarely seen; it’s almost as if she goes into another world and just when you think she’s tuned everything out… looks up and flashes her fabulous smile. Last year, they toured with Brad Paisley for a number of shows and they were just as amazing the second time seeing them – stealing the pre-show in Boston, despite the heat! If you have the opportunity to see the JaneDear Girls perform, you definitely should check them out. They put their heart in their performances and are a fun, energetic show.

Susie was kind enough to take a few moments of her time and answer a couple of questions for us. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we asked her some Valentine’s Day themed questions.

Susie Brown Boston, MA 2011

RCD: I remember seeing you live and Danelle mentioned you played many instruments, how many instruments do you play and which was your first?
SB: I play five instruments: Fiddle, Mandolin, Upright Bass, Guitar and Accordion. I wrote our first single “Wildflower” on Mandolin, but the fiddle is my first instrument.

RCD: I play no instruments – though once I played Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain on guitar – at least that’s how I remember it… What artist would you most enjoy collaborating with?
SB: I would love to collaborate and do a duet with Dolly Parton! She’s got spunk and she has such a classic feminine style.

RCD: Speaking of style, what decade in your opinion has the most romantic clothing?
SB: I think the most romantic clothing is definitely the 40′s and 50′s. The style of those two decades were so elegant and timeless and they still have a big influence in today’s top fashion.

RCD: Do you have a pair of shoes that make you feel sexier than any others?
SB: People ask me all the time how I walk in such high heels and I just tell them that “High Heels are my favorite pair of Tennis Shoes”.

RCD: Once you have your outfit put together and your favorite “tennis shoes” on, what is your most favorite scent for that special evening out?
SB: My favorite perfume right now is Harajuku Lovers Baby by Gwen Stefani.

RCD: What is your favorite chocolate?
SB: I love See’s chocolate! Especially their chocolate covered caramels. Yummy!

RCD: Do you have any fun plans for this Valentines Day?
SB: I’m planning on eating lots of cookies and chocolate on Valentines day and playing dress up with my little Yorkie, Lady.

RCD: Your Valentine’s Day sounds like mine, but I’ll be with my Cocker Spaniel, Ally! What is your definition of Romance?
SB: To me the definition of romance is going out of your way to show that special someone how much you care in your own way. Knowing exactly what will make them smile and treating them like they are the best thing that’s ever happened to you every single day.
