Reba McEntire Embraces And Recognizes The Importance Of Social Media

GACTV.com has an interesting article titled Reba Gets Comfortable With Social Networking. I’ve been following Reba’s Tweets and Facebook posts for quite some time now, and I have to commend her for recognizing and utilizing social media the way she does. Said Reba in the article,

“Back a long time ago you were like, ‘Oh let’s not get over-saturated. Let’s not over-saturate the public with all the stuff that’s going on. Be a little mysterious,’” she said. “And now, you’re telling people when you’re going to brush your teeth. Now, it’s totally different in the mindset, and I don’t think the fans can get enough information.

She’s right about that. This day and age, Reba’s Tweebas (Reba’s nickname for her Twitter followers) wake up every day wondering what their favorite country singer is going to say or do next. Without a shadow of a doubt, I believe Reba’s popularity is bigger than ever because of social media. She had more number ones in the 80′s and 90′s, but this day and age, she has more social media hits that many of her country music brethren combined.

If you’re not, you can follow Reba on Twitter @Reba and on Facebook at Facebook.com/Reba. Enjoy!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Aug. 30, 2011

Nashville, TN – Mercury Nashville/19 Recordings/ Interscope artist Scotty McCreery releases a new single today called “The Trouble With Girls,” which is the second single from his much-anticipated debut album, Clear As Day, due Oct. 4.

“It’s a really sweet song,” Scotty says. “I played it for my sister and I said, ‘Would you like to hear what’s said in this song?’ She said, ‘I would love to have a guy say some of this stuff to me.’

“It’s talking about how great they are and it’s tough for the guy to handle because he just loves it. It has a nice twist to it. It’s like the songwriters wrote it just for me.”

The chorus of the song, written by Phillip White and Chris Tompkins, is, “They smile that smile/ They bat those eyes/ They steal you with hello/ They kill you with goodbye/ They hook you with one touch/ And you can’t break free/ Yeah, the trouble with girls/ Is nobody loves trouble as much as me.”

“The Trouble With Girls” is one of Scotty’s favorites on his new album. “Right off the bat when I heard it, I told my mom when we were listening to the demo, ‘This is the kind of song when you are in the kitchen doing dishes that makes you stop what you are doing and listen to it.’ It struck a chord with me and I knew it was something I wanted to put on the album.”

This song is the follow-up to “I Love You This Big,” a Top 15 hit that had the highest debut on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for a new artist’s first single since at least 1984.

In May, Scotty won Season Ten of American Idol, becoming the youngest male winner and the only country male winner in the show’s history. A record-breaking 122.4 million votes were cast during the finale. The final show attracted 29.3 million viewers and 38.6 million people tuned in to see the winner’s name announced. He first performed “I Love You This Big” on the finale show and later followed with performances of the song on Today, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Good Morning America.

“This is the first time we’re getting the chance to put out new music and the music we’ve been working hard on,” he says of his new single. “I’m glad the fans will finally be able to get a little taste of what the album is going to be like. I’m looking forward to getting out there and singing it.”

He is currently on the American Idols Live! Tour, which Pollstar recently ranked at No. 14 on its list of the Top 20 Concert Tours.

Ashton Shepherd’s Exclusive Interview With TheCountrySite.com’s Marloes Lucy Duizer

This summer, Marloes Lucy Duizer, a freelance writer, photographer and frequent contributor to TheCountrySite.com, was lucky enough to conduct an interview with Ashton Shepherd.  In Marloes’ interview with Ashton below, Ashton shares who she was most looking forward to seeing play at this year’s CMA Fest as well as how she balances motherhood with her career.

1. Ashton, thank you so much for your time. The internet is the only way for european country music fans to see you. We don’t have CMT/GAC and we can’t access CMT/GAC online. You have done video blogs in the past that gave us a peek into your life on the road, which was great for us. Will you be doing that again?

Yes hopefully so. Looking forward to it!

2. The new album, Where Country Grows, came out in July. How is this one different from the other one? Did you approach things differently this time?

It’s more tempo heavy than the last record. But it still has strong ballads I think. I wrote with some of nashville’s writers for this record. I would say that makes it different.

3. What are you most proud of with this album?

I’m most proud of being able to stay Ashton Shepherd. And being able to do so in a prideful way.

4. You’re praised for being ‘true country’. What do you think makes you stand out and/or different from other artists?

Ya know I’m not exactly sure…. I’ve been told because I’m rootsy. Very family oriented. And I still have my feet on the ground in lower Alabama. But I feel like most artists are too.

5. You were named one of GAC’s most beautiful moms. How do you balance motherhood and your career?

Family and God. I’ve had tremendous support from my family. And God has blessed me very much.

6. You are several months pregnant now (congratulations!) and you’ll be played LP Field during CMA fest. That sure is special. How do you do it?

I do it happily and proudly. It is so special to be expecting and still perform my music.

7. Will you be taking a break from the business after CMA fest? Maternity leave so to speak?

Yes. We taper off in August and of course will have time when the baby is born.

8. Are there any items, family or friends to keep you company while you are on the road? Is there something specific you just have to have with you?

I love bringing my son James and Roland when we can. And I try to always bring the earrings they got me for Christmas and wear them when I travel with out them.

9. What is your favorite song to play live and why?

I love all my songs especially the singles because the audience knows them.

10. What’s your funniest memory from a concert?

Wearing a tag on my shirt I had bought from Walmart while I performed.

11. Which artist were you looking forward to see play at CMA fest?

Reba!

12.You played the GAC Kick off breakfast. Are you a morning person?

Yep. You have to be an all the time person in this business.

13. What can we look forward to from Ashton Shepherd in 2011/2012?

More singles. A big tour next year! And hopefully lots of record sales!

Waylon Jennings Performing ‘Nashville Rebel’ From The 1966 Movie Of The Same Name

Shooter Jennings has stirred up a lot of debate about today’s new country singers with his new song and video for Outlaw You. In case you haven’t heard it yet, it’s the second video below. The first video is a clip of a young Waylon Jennings performing Nashville Rebel for the 1966 movie Nashville Rebel. I thought it was an appropriate video to accompany Shooter’s. What are your thoughts about Shooter’s new song?
